About Palilas:
This bird is a Hawaiian honeycreeper with a yellow breast and gray belly. It is about six or seven inches long. It is in the finch family and is endangered due to habitat destruction. The palila has a symbiotic relationship with the mamane tree. According to the USGS Biological Resources Division Pacific Island Ecosystems,

"The palila is currently the last remaining finch-billed Hawaiian honeycreeper to exist in the main islands, and the only remaining Hawaiian bird that lives exclusively in dry forests." (See web page.)
