More about the horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus):
The horseshoe crab is also referred to as the horsefoot, king crab, soldier crab, or sauce-pan. According to Wikipedia, it is more closely related to spiders, ticks and scorpions than it is to crabs. They are found along the northern Atlantic coast and in the Gulf of Mexico. They live about 25 years. Horseshoe crabs do not have jaws. They can regrow limbs that have been cut off. This is referred to as "regeneration". Although it is called a "horseSHOE crab", what the term actually refers to is the resemblance to the hoof of a horse.
