About Gulf Fritillary Butterflies:
The Gulf Fritillary butterfly is not related to the true fritillaries. Its range is from Aregentina to the southern United States. Its larva feeds on poisonous vines becoming poisonous itself, if eaten. The species falls within the subfamily Heliconiinae, commonly referred to as "longwings", having elongated wings. Adults feed on nectar of cordias, lantana, shepherd's needle, and other flowering plants. Caterpillars feed on passion vines (Passiflora spp.)
