About American Lotus:
American lotus is perennial. It is also referred to as the "Yellow Lotus". It is native in the United States in the midwest, most eastern states, and California. It is endangered in New Jersey and Pennsylvania but invasive in Connecticut. The leaves may be emersed or floating on water. It is found in water as deep as six feet. It is sometimes confused with water lilies. The leaves of the American lotus are not slit as they are in water lilies. Flowers are about six inches in diameter. Seed pods are distinctive and often used in flower arranging.
