Mayfly nymph are aquatic insects found in freshwater lakes, streams, rivers, and ponds. Nymphs are also called naiads. The nymph stage lasts about a year. The adult stage lasts only up to a few days. Nymphs live under rocks and decaying plants. Most naiads have seven pairs of gills. Most have three tails (cerci). They have incomplete metamorphosis (hemimetabolous).
